Could this be the best ‘budget friendly’  SUV?

During the course of last week we got to sample the all-new Nissan Qashqai. And what an amazing vehicle, truly deserving of all the praise.

Exterior:

The new Qashqai showcases Nissan all new design language that is noticeable spreading through their whole lineup. But to say the least the Qashqai is a beautiful car. Very sharp and bold lines that give it a futuristic ‘concept’ like design. Our favorite part was the front end, especially with the creatively designed DRL’s. LED headlights and partial LED taillights really add a modern yet luxurious feeling exterior design. Coupled with the well sized 19-inch wheels, the Qashqai has successfully achieved a great design.

Interior:

To be honest, we felt that the best part of the Qashqai was the beautifully designed interior. Nissan have outdone themselves using the best materials and creating such a clean and minimalistic design. A few highlights were the amazing Bose sound system, massive infotainment screen and the beautifully designed center console. The Bose sound system, is clear and well balanced with excellent bass levels. Definitely the best we’ve heard within this market, the seats were excellent as they were comfortable and well positioned. Long story short we’d say the Qashqai’s interior is an awesome place to be.

Features:

The Nissan Qashqai was quite surprising with the features it came with, especially with our test guise. Most of the fun was in the interior with heated and massaging seats. The massage functions were basic but they did the job really well, and the heated seats were just right especially now more than ever with us just entering the winter season. As for tech, the Qashqai comes packed with technology such as the adaptive cruise control and the various safety systems. Other than that, everything else is quite simple and straight to the point.

Engines:

Nissan have done a superb job with the power plant for the Qashqai. As the new 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine felt so smooth you’d swear it’s an EV. Power figures are more than enough as the Qashqai pushes out 150hp and 250Nm of torque mated to Nissan’s new X-tronic CVT transmission. Surprisingly the gearbox was so smooth it almost felt like a DCT transmission. Fuel consumption is very good with a combined output of 6.1L/100km. Overall, the Qashqai is an easy and relaxing car to drive.

Verdict:

The Nissan Qashqai is an amazing vehicle, and there is room for improvement. But that’s just us being picky, and whilst the budget friendly crossover/suv market is quite competitive. The Nissan Qashqai is one you should definitely shortlist. Therefore we have given the Nissan Qashqai an 8/10.

The Nissan Qashqai comes standard with a six-year/150 000km warranty and three-year/90 000km.
