The Nissan Navara Pro-4X, ‘could this be the best bakkie on the market?’

Well for the most part yes, but there are a few factors that we think Nissan need to improve on in order to become the benchmark within the bakkie market.

Exterior:

The Nissan Navara is the best looking bakkie on the market hands down. What an aggressive and sharp looking design and with our test guise coming in black, just made the Navara look even meaner. The  red details all around added that extra touch.

Interior:

The only part where the Navara fails to beat its rivals is the interior. The interior is a bit boring and dated, namely the analog dials and small infotainment screen make the Navara less exciting to be in. Although, the Pro-4X red details and hexagonal stitching all around the interior account for the points lost with the overall design. The overall comfort was okay, rest assured there’s definitely room for improvement. But overall the interior is a good place to be as you sit quite high and have great visibility all around.

Features:

The Navara comes with standard features such as cruise control, blind-spot monitoring system and 360 degree parking cameras. For the most part it’s pretty simple with its approach to technology.

Engine:

The Nissan Navara is quite a heavy vehicle. But the power is plentiful which driving the Navara easy and simple, and the little Easter eggs are hearing the engine ‘Swuuu’ and ‘Swoosh’ as you let go of the accelerator. Which can make anyone’s days or at least make them smile. Nissan have stuffed a powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder Turbocharged diesel engine, pushing out 150hp and 450Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. On paper the Navara may come off as slow or underpowered, but driving it tells a different story. Overall the Navara’s power plant is well built and tough enough to accommodate the many adventures most of us go on.

Verdict:

The Navara is an awesome bakkie that offers a lot. A smooth gearbox mated to a powerful engine makes driving relaxing and hassle free. Fuel consumption is one of the best we’ve seen and it just feels nice to drive. Also the striking design has caught the attention of many and received a lot of compliments throughout our review. Definitely one you should shortlist, as we advise that you look at its competitors. Overall we give it an 8/10.
